Home shifting is one of those tasks that always looks smaller in your head than it turns out to be. A 2BHK flat in Bariatu or Lalpur contains roughly 60 to 80 packing units by the time you count furniture, electronics, kitchen items, wardrobes, decor and miscellaneous boxes. Doing it well takes planning, not just labour. This guide walks through exactly how a professional home shifting in Ranchi runs, from the day you first call us to the evening the last carton is opened in your new home.
Two Weeks Before: Plan and Survey
Good moves start with a proper survey. When you call our Ranchi office, the first thing we do is arrange a survey – by phone, WhatsApp video, or in person at your home. The purpose is not just to give you a quote. It is to identify the size of the vehicle you actually need, the number of packers and loaders, any special-handling items like marble tabletops or aquariums, and access points like lift availability, lane width or society entry timings.
Two weeks out is also when you should start decluttering. Every household has 10 to 20 percent of items that should not travel to the new house at all. Clothes you have not worn in two years, kitchen equipment that duplicates what you already have, books you will never re-read. Moving them costs money on both ends – packing labour to load and vehicle space you are paying for.
One Week Before: Confirm Quote and Book Utilities
By the week of the move, you should have a written quote confirmed and the moving date locked. The quote should itemise labour, packing material, transport and unloading separately – not a single lump sum. Anything vague at this stage becomes an argument on moving day.
Also this week: call your electricity provider, cable and internet company to schedule disconnection at the old address and reconnection at the new one. In Ranchi this can take 3 to 5 working days for JBVNL electricity connections, so book early. If you are moving to a new locality like Kanke or Ratu Road, confirm your new address paperwork is ready for local vendor registration.
Two Days Before: Prepare the House
The day before packing, do these four things. First, empty and defrost the fridge – it needs 24 hours to drain completely before it can travel safely. Second, disconnect and dry any water-based appliances like washing machines and dishwashers, so residual water does not leak into cartons in transit. Third, pack an essentials box that will travel with you personally – mobile chargers, medicines, one change of clothes per person, basic toiletries, important documents. This box does not go with the movers. Fourth, take reference photos of your electronic equipment – the back of your TV, the WiFi router setup, cable arrangements – so reassembly at the new home is fast.
Moving Day: What Actually Happens
Our crew arrives at the agreed time, usually between 8 and 9 AM. The first 30 minutes are walk-through and setup – the crew lead identifies which room to pack first, which requires wooden crating, which needs early loading. Packing then proceeds room by room. A well-organised 2BHK home shifting in Ranchi typically completes packing in 3 to 4 hours, loading in another 1 to 2 hours, and delivery to the new address by afternoon or early evening if it is within city.
During packing, stay available for questions but do not micromanage. The crew works faster if you designate one person as the point of contact and keep the rest of the family out of the packing rooms. This is also when you should check that every carton is being labelled with the room name and a brief content note – our crews do this by default, but a quick verification prevents unpacking surprises later.
At the New Home: Delivery and Setup
Unloading is faster than loading, typically 60 to 75 percent of the loading time. Cartons and furniture are placed room by room per your instructions. Our crew reassembles major furniture – beds, wardrobes, dining tables – and does a basic re-arrangement. What we do not do is unpack every carton – that is usually a family task done over the next few days at your pace. If you want full unpacking, mention it at survey stage; we quote it separately with more crew hours.
Before the crew leaves, do a walk-through with the crew lead and check goods against the packing list. Any damage or missing carton is documented on the spot and addressed. Once you sign the delivery receipt, the move is officially complete and you should receive the GST invoice within 24 hours for reimbursement claims.
Week After: Settle In Properly
The most common mistake families make is trying to unpack everything in one weekend. Do it in phases. First 48 hours: essentials, kitchen basics, beds. Next 3 days: main clothes, bathroom, primary living room. Then over the following week: decor, less-used items, seasonal clothes. This phased approach keeps the house liveable rather than turning it into a chaotic warehouse.
Also within the first week, register your new address with your bank, update Aadhaar if this is a permanent move, transfer LPG connection, and add your new address to Amazon, food delivery apps and any subscription services. These small updates are often forgotten and cause frustration later.
