Part-Load vs Full-Truck Explained
Surya Packers & Movers · Ranchi

The single biggest question on any intercity move from Ranchi is: should I book a full-truck or share space in a part-load? This one decision changes the price by 30–50%, changes the transit time by 1–2 days, and changes how your goods are handled. This guide explains the trade-offs so you can pick the right option for your specific move.

Both options are legitimate. Both use the same trained packing team, the same multi-layer packing standards, and the same GST-invoiced documentation. The difference is entirely in the vehicle arrangement.

🚚
Full-truck: your goods travel alone, direct route, fastest delivery.

Full-Truck Charter – What You Are Paying For

A full-truck (or "dedicated truck") means the entire vehicle carries only your goods. The truck departs from your Ranchi address, drives directly to your new city, and unloads at your new address. No intermediate stops, no other consignments, no waiting for other bookings to fill the truck.

Advantages

  • Fastest transit – typically 3–5 days to Delhi, 4–6 days to Mumbai, 1–2 days to Kolkata
  • Guaranteed delivery date – no waiting for a shared-truck schedule
  • Less handling – goods are loaded once and unloaded once
  • Better for large households – 3BHK and above where the volume would use most of a truck anyway
  • Better for time-critical moves – transfer postings with a hard reporting date

Disadvantages

  • Higher cost – you pay for the empty truck space if your goods do not fill it
  • Not economical below 2BHK – a 1BHK move in a full truck wastes 60–70% of the vehicle

Part-Load – The Smart Choice for Smaller Moves

Part-load means your goods travel in a dedicated, barriered section of a truck that also carries other consignments. Your goods are separated by stretch film, wooden barriers or foam boards – nothing touches your items directly. The truck follows a scheduled route with multiple stops.

📦
Part-load: shared truck, barriered sections, 30–50% cost reduction.

Advantages

  • 30–50% cheaper for 1RK, 1BHK and light 2BHK moves
  • Regular schedules – major routes from Ranchi have 2–4 departures weekly
  • Same packing standards – identical to full-truck
  • Environmentally better – shared trucks reduce empty road miles

Disadvantages

  • Longer transit – add 1–2 days to full-truck timelines because of intermediate stops
  • Delivery window, not exact date – you get a 24–48 hour window at booking
  • Slight extra handling – unloading in stages if other consignments come off first

The Decision Matrix

Use this quick guide to decide:

  • 1RK or 1BHK → Part-load, unless you have a hard deadline
  • 2BHK → Either works; part-load saves money, full-truck saves time
  • 3BHK or larger → Full-truck almost always – you fill most of the vehicle anyway
  • Job transfer with fixed reporting date → Full-truck for peace of mind
  • Retirement or relaxed timeline → Part-load, save the money
  • Peak season month-end → Book full-truck if part-load slots are full

Route-Specific Notes

Some routes from Ranchi have more part-load options than others. Kolkata (via Ranchi to Kolkata route) and Patna (via Ranchi to Patna route) have near-daily part-load departures because these are shorter, higher-volume corridors. Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai are longer routes with 1–2 part-load departures per week.

For Delhi (via Ranchi to Delhi route), you have both options with regular frequency. This is our busiest corridor.

Coordinator tip: If you are on the fence between part-load and full-truck for a 2BHK, ask us both prices. The gap is sometimes smaller than expected during off-season, making full-truck the smarter buy.

What Does Not Change

Regardless of which you pick, these stay identical: packing quality, insurance option, GST invoicing, WhatsApp tracking, and unloading with re-arrangement at the new address. See our home shifting page for the standard service inclusions.
