The best moves are the ones planned early. Six weeks before your target date, you should already know your new address, your rough moving budget, and the general date window. If you are relocating for a job or transfer posting, request your reporting letter and any employer transfer allowance paperwork now, because it takes longer than most people expect.

Walk through your home with a notebook or a phone note. In each room, note big-ticket items – wardrobes, beds, TV, dining table, refrigerator, washing machine – and any special items like a piano, a fish tank, a marble table top or a wall-mounted safe. These items influence the vehicle size, packing material and even the survey duration.
Sign the written quote from your mover and lock the moving date. Month-ends are peak season in Ranchi – April, June and September especially – so booking 15–20 days ahead guarantees your preferred slot. Weekend dates fill first.
Every home has 15–25% of items that are not worth moving – old clothes, broken electronics, unused furniture, expired kitchen goods. Give these away, donate them or dispose responsibly. The reason is simple: you pay for volume, so lighter moves cost less.

Update your address with: bank, mobile provider, gas connection, Aadhaar, driving licence, employer HR, children’s school, LIC and health insurance. Many of these can now be updated online within minutes.
Most Ranchi apartment societies – particularly newer projects on Ratu Road, Kanke Road and the Booty side – require an advance letter for large-vehicle entry. Ask your society office 10–14 days in advance and confirm lift-booking rules for moving day.
Pack a single suitcase with 3 days of clothes, toiletries, phone chargers, medications, important documents and basic kitchen items. This bag travels with you, not in the truck.
Turn the refrigerator off 24 hours before moving day and leave the doors open to drain and dry. Wet fridges arrive smelling.
Jewellery, cash, original documents (Aadhaar, passport, property papers), and heirlooms should travel with you – never in the moving truck. This is not about mistrust; it is standard practice.

Heavy items first (fridge, washing machine, almirah), fragile items on top, everything strapped and cushioned. This weight-distribution matters more than most people realise – it prevents shifting during transit and reduces damage.
At the new address, the crew unloads, places furniture in the room you indicate, and unpacks the major items. Do a walk-through against the packing list before signing. Any concerns are documented on the spot.
Unpack in this order: kitchen essentials, bathroom, bedroom, then living room. Do not try to unpack everything in one day. Update your final address on Aadhaar and voter ID within the first week, and connect with your new neighbourhood – the nearest chemist, grocery and doctor.
